Is  violence the only means of getting justice in Arunachal?

By Taba Ajum

ITANAGAR, Jan 30: In the last few years Arunachal Pradesh is witnessing drastic change in social structures. The earlier tolerant society of state is being gradually replaced by new generation of youths who are restless to achieve success in life. The penchants for attaining early success in life and frustration at the slow functioning of state machinery have often tested patience of these youths. Aghast at prevailing corruption most of these youths are facing uphill task of motivating themselves for better life ahead.

The spread of education in the state has produced many doctors, engineers, graduates from various fields and they all pin for landing job with state agencies. Most of the Arunachal’s new generation youth are getting educated in metropolitan cities and they come back to their home state with great hope for better future and serving their own state. It is after reaching here that they realize the kind of efforts they need to put in for securing their future. The competition and hardship of finding job often frustrates these youth. Adding to their woes, the ever increasing economic imbalances in society are making life harder for them.

Our state has always prided itself for being home to the most tolerant society. But in the last few decades things have changed for bad and on much occasion act of vandalism are being used as way of fighting for justice which is deeply hurting our society in general. Though nobody support such action, surprisingly some of the educated youth justifies these acts by stating that they do it for justice. “We feel quite guilty to act like that way. But at times too much of corruption lead us to behave like that. Though we all come from educated family but situations make us look like monster,” moaned T. Tagin, an unemployed young graduate.

The aggressive approaches of younger generation in dealing with prevailing problems are worrying every parent who had labored hard to educate their children. “Our society has become so in-tolerant. It is understood that with more education, competition increases but our youth have to learn the art of patience, “commented one worried father. He further added, “The tactics of threatening and muscle flexing are not good for the longer run. It will only create bad image of our state to the rest of world. We have to remember that in the modern world even little incidents can lead to greater repercussion.”

In the changing dynamic of world, our youth also have to gear up themselves to face every kind of competition for better future. In the meanwhile even state government has to pull up their shocks to ensure that dreams of our youth for better future do not gate-crash. In entire north-east region our state is still considered to be one of most peaceful land with good job prospects. Even this reporter while studying in places like Mysore and Delhi has often bragged to the rest of my countrymen that our state boasts of good job prospect and that Arunachal Pradesh is a land of peace, which I guess all youths studying must have done. Now it is duty of our elected representatives and government to make sure that Arunachal truly remains land of peace in real sense.
